Midnight Sun by Stephanie Meyer

"And her happiness has become the most important thing. More important than my own."

It's finally here. The moment that Twi-hards around the world have been waiting for for 15 years. The beginning of Edward and Bella's eternal love story from Edward's point of view. And let me tell you.....I have some thoughts.

The writing was much different in this book than any of the others. In hindsight I guess the reasoning for that could be strictly because it's from someone else's point of view, since the entire original saga is from Bella's, and Jacob's in some sections. It could just be because I just re-read the entire original saga but I had a strong aversion to thus book at first. When I got a few chapters in I felt better and by the end I was sold.....ish.

The most blatant difference for me was that all the romanticizing of the Cullen's is gone from this story and you see them for the "monsters" they have been, and at times still are. We do learn a lot more about all the Cullen's and their sordid pasts, which I absolutely loved. We find out ALL of Edward's inner monologue, of course, which at times is completely unexpected. There is so much more detail about Edward, Alice, and Jasper's special talents which was fascinating.

My favorite part is that because of Edward's "gift" we are able to hear thoughts from all the characters we know and love, and some of them are shocking. We learn some interesting things about both Charlie and Renee's minds which give some clarity, I think, to what we already know about Bella's. When Jacob comes into the picture I love the pure and sweet thoughts he has and I wish we could know more about his thoughts as the story plays on.

Overall, it answered all my burning questions and checked all the boxes as far as what I need from this book. For some reason I just didn't feel as emotionally connected to this story as I was to the original saga. But I do recommend it to any other Twilight fans out there as a good closure to the saga.
