Sisters of the Moon by Alexandrea Weis

A monstrous fate will turn a girl into a legend.

On an island in Lake Obersee, where The Sisters of St. Gertrude abide, a destitute Moor named Durra arrives. Sold for taxes, she and her two companions tend to the nuns and their collection of cats. At night, she combs the library for details on the order, the remote island, and the beasts howling outside her window.

But when a prank reveals the sisters’ gruesome secret, Durra is forced to accept a new fate. Bestowed an unearthly power, she must choose between life as a nun or living among the monsters beyond the convent walls.

Her path is about to change the tide in the ultimate war. The war between good and evil.

REVIEW: Thank you to Xpresso book tours and Vesuvian books for the e-ARC of this book in exchange for a review. I had no idea what to expect from this book. I thought the cover was gorgeous and couldn't wait to read what it held inside. This was definitely something I had never read before and I can't wait to continue reading this series. Our main character Durra, is a mystery from the beginning. Her "gifts' she already holds before coming to the convent I know will have some major place in the story to come. The nuns on this mysterious island are strong and full of spunk and waiting with open arms to take in all the lost and broken girls into their home. When we learn their secret, we also find out that they are the ultimate protectors and badass warriors. This is a great short read that you can sit and finish in a couple of hours, which is great because you won't want to put it down.
