The Master: Jack, the enigmatic keeper of the club, and more than one lie told
The Magician: Demarco, the brooding judge with a dark past he can no longer hide
Where Dreams Descend is the startling and romantic first book in Janella Angeles’ debut Kingdom of Cards fantasy duology where magic is both celebrated and feared, and no heart is left unscathed.
REVIEW: I read this book in two days because I couldn't put it down. My thoughts are everywhere on this one because it really is a phenomenal book. There is so much to talk about when it comes to this book. If you are a fan of The Night Circus, Caraval, The Magicians trilogy, or Phantom of the Opera, this book is for you. There is so much mystery surrounding all of the main characters in this book and though we are made known to some things, this is such a great stepping off point for this story. Kallia is a strong and formidable magical talent who can command any stage at any time, with costumes to die for! Jack is the brooding master, who is trying to both keep Kallia safe and keep her hidden away....but from what? Demarco is the former magicians who is searching for his sister and is derailed by the force of nature that is Kallia. Kallia's fear of Jack is both heartbreaking and confusing to not only the reader but to Kallia herself. The loyalty of her new found friend and assistant is touching and pure, for two people who are essentially strangers. We meet The Conquerors troop that contains everything from acrobats, to flame eaters, to dagger throwers and are just as over the top as Kallia. The more we learn about Demarco, the less we know about his mysterious past. The imagery that Angeles paints throughout this book is remarkable and beyond magic itself. And the ending......I was not ready y'all. This is a 100 star read and an author to keep out eyes out for in the future.
